Royal ATB4 Electronic Audio Bible King James Version 39131VRoyal ATB4 Electronic Audio Bible King James Version 39131V Review
A set of cheap batteries took me from Genesis all the way through Leviticus, about 175 pages worth. Energizers took me from Numbers to 1 Samuel 13, about 250 pages worth. So it's cheap to run.I have had no problems with this little machine, except that sometimes it won't turn on or off on the first try. It always does on the second try, though. The size is great, just a little smaller than a pocket radio. The volume is adequate. Everything is still in good working order.
The voice is strong, clear, and interesting. He does not read as fast as most other readers I've heard, which is beneficial for thoughtful listening. Also, there is a millisecond pause between every one when you are in continuous listening mode. This slows the narration down even more, which is excellent, for you have these moments to catch up on what was just said.
By the time I was in Numbers, I began to look at my open Bible more as he read along, for I was often stopping to meditate on insights that were coming to me. Then I noticed more and more the mistakes the narrator made. Most are of little consequence, like when he says `I have' instead of `have I' in Numbers 18.8; `therein' instead of `thereof' in Numbers 18.30. Though errors like these are frequent, they are not serious.
But then there are serious errors, like these: He says `liest' and `lie' instead of `diest' and `die' in Ruth 1.17; `king' instead of `captain' in 2 Samuel 17.25; `argued' instead of `urged' in 2 Kings 2.17; `king of Syria' instead of `king of Israel' in 2 Kings 5.6; `Samarians' instead of `Samaritans' in 2 Kings 17.29; let his `wife' be made a dunghill instead of let his `house' in Ezra 6.11; `righteous' instead of `unrighteous' in Job 27.7 Such errors as these are grave enough, because the sense is marred by them. I have double-checked to make sure that his reading, not the text read from, is to blame, both the device and my personal Bible being in agreement in all the instances related.
Every time I begin to look at my Bible while he reads, it is not long before I find him reading awry. However, I still highly recommend the appliance as it is. I really appreciate this audio Bible. You should see how extensive my notes are because of the insights I got from just listening! For the unabbreviated edition of this review, email me: mhgaboury (at) gmail.com.
