Product works very well. Fits quite nicely on the desk, a rather small footprint compared to some devices. It is very quick and takes just a few seconds to destroy the data on the disk. It is much better and cleaner than a device that shreds DVDs/CDs. I have used both types and prefer this method over any others. I bought this label printer to serve as shipping label printer for Stamps.com and UPS packages.

Setup has some learning curve as this printer is specifically designed for UPS shipping. But the driver UPS website has for this printer will work outside of UPS. I have previously checked with Stamps.com and they confirmed this printer will work with their shipping software and all that is needed is the driver from UPS website. Once installed, the printer will show up on the list of printer in Windows (I use Windows 7 64-bit). If it doesn't, don't panic. Try restarting the computer or turn the printer off and back on again. I've found the generic driver for this printer available through third-party isn't as good as the one supplied by UPS website so I uninstalled that driver in preference for the official UPS driver.

Once Windows finally recognized the printer's existence, I checked it with Stamps.com client software. The 4" X 6" label option appears once I set this printer as the default printer for Stamps.com. Everything printed perfectly. The printer's printing quality is superb, very sharp.

For UPS, once you've completed your shipping arrangement, you'd be given an option to use the thermal printer at the end when the website says it's ready to print your shipping label.

On that note, the extra 1,000 labels that come with this particular package are 4 rolls of 250 blanks. The "free" roll that comes with the actual printer has UPS logo printed on them already. If you switch out the label rolls, the printer will dispense 2 labels for alignment purpose and you can't roll them back. If you're using strictly for UPS, start using those and you don't even need to buy the extra 1,000 labels either since UPS will give you 4" X 6" thermal printer labels for free (with their company logo printed on the labels already of course). If you're going to use the printer for other shipping services, you might want to stick to the blank ones so you don't waste 2 labels every time you swap rolls.

I have also used graphic programs and word processors to create custom labels and message labels for the printer to print. Works great as well. Once Windows recognize the printer, it allows any program to print to it. You'll have to set the margin to 0.1" on all sides because the print quality gets sketchy passed that margin.

Supposedly this printer works with FedEx too but I have not tested it with FedEx website. FedEx also give out free thermal labels with their logo printed on them already of course.

Royal 160MX 16-Sheet Cross Cut Paper Shredder - Black Review

Our old shredder cut paper in strips 1/4" wide, the length of the paper. Although far better than not shredding, a very patient individual could reconstruct readable documents from these strips. This shredder cuts paper into 3/16" x 1" pieces, plus the ends are angled and ragged. This makes it highly unlikely that anyone would even attempt to reassemble a cross-cut document, much less one document from among hundreds of pages of co-mingled confetti. So, if you're serious about shredding, buy a cross-shredder device. In addition to paper, this thing utterly destroys CDs and credit cards - as the pieces are 3/16" wide, but even shorter than 1".

The shredder is shipped in the factory box, with large Kapox protectors at each end, with the device itself wrapped in plastic, for more protection. Our unit arrived unscathed. It comes fully assembled. Plug it in and go. The instruction "manual" is very thin, but this device isn't complicated. Remove any glue after peeling off the label, with paint thinner - quick, and zero damage.

This shredder has only three buttons. On/off, forward, and reverse. The on-off button's green LED illuminates when it's on; this means the device is ready to be fed paper. The motor starts when it senses something in the input slot. The forward and reverse buttons are only necessary when it overloads (i.e., paper stops feeding).

Our home-office has hardwood floors, and rolling the Royal about on its four casters is a cinch. Each caster can be locked, if you want the unit to stay put. The all matte-black plastic construction is attractive. It stops working when the integral bin is full. It's simple to empty - pull the bin out with the handle and dump/recycle the chopped-up remains. The bin has to be fully inserted to resume shredding.

From an electrical point of view, this shredder doesn't even register 1 watt (on a Kill-A-Watt meter), while in "ready" status, and draws variable wattage when in use, depending on the load. E.g., one sheet of paper draws about 35 watts and a full load (chopping up a CD) draws 273 watts. Since it uses almost no measurable electricity at idle, it would seem that the principle reason to turn the device off is if small children are in the house. On that note, the feed slots are designed so little fingers can't (shouldn't?) fit - however, you never know what a kid might do.

We're very satisfied with the 160MX for our home office, but don't confuse Royal's sales-pitch of "office ready" as meaning it's OK for any office (e.g., a small business). That may not be the case because of sheet-capacity, the 10-minute-maximum run-time, and/or it's plastic (although solid) construction. Instructions say to let the motor cool for 30 minutes after 10 minutes of use at maximum capacity; however, the motor doesn't get as hot when shedding only a few sheets at a time.

As of this writing, Amazon sells shredders from $15 to commercial-grade shredders up to $5,984. That makes this device clearly aimed at the lower end of that scale - the home-owner. Royal says it takes up to16 sheets of 20 lb. bond paper at a time. We use 24 lb. Kodak bond paper exclusively, and this shredder will only comfortably take about 10 sheets of that weight paper at a time. More than that and it just stops, requiring use of the reverse button or pulling the partially shredded paper out, then re-feeding less thickness. Because of this, it's easier to just stay below the maximum when feeding it.

The LCD display is blank when off, or says "ready auto", "forward", "reverse", "bin full", "overload", or "overheat". Technically, this machine doesn't "jam", so there's no indicator for that - instead, if you exceed its capacity to pull in material and shred it, an "overload" results and the motor stops. The instructions do no mention periodic maintenance as being required.

The 5-star rating is because this an excellent choice for a home-office, and based on the competition in this price range, an excellent value. I.e., we couldn't find another model with comparable features for near this price.

I bought this scanner to use in our school library. At first it was very difficult to install and took a couple hours to sync with the bluetooth adapter. I will also say that the disc it came with only contained a pdf with an instruction manual and not a "driver CD" like the wasp bar code website lists in the box contents. With help from our two IT people working together, we got it up and running despite confusing directions. The Scanner itself works beautifully and seems like a quality piece of tech. It does make some odd little noises sometimes but it does the job just fine.

The bluetooth adapter, however, does not work and has given me problem after problem. It is not compatible with Windows 7. The adapter that came in the box is made by Sabrent and from what I can tell from other reviews of the adapter, it doesn't work with Windows 7. At first it worked about 50% of the time but after 3 weeks now, it has completely stopped working and will not sync with the bar code scanner. All it says is that there is an error and it had to shut itself down. I am now looking for another bluetooth adapter that will be compatible with the Freedom scanner.

Black & Decker 6-Sheet Crosscut Shredder (CC601) Review

I bought it because it's really space efficient. But being space efficient, the bin that collects all the shredded pieces needs to be empty after a few sheets because the pieces tend to stay on one side. Although on picture the machine looks modern and quite sturdy, it's actually made of cheap plastic. The worst problem this one has is the shredded pieces. Even though it says on the machine that it can shred a maximum of 6 pages into cross cut pieces, if you put in more than one paper, it will come out in strip cut form. I read several reviews on other shredders and people mentioned the overheat problem on some shredders, I think this one is alright. Last end of the year I needed to shred quite a lot of papers and I fed them one by one into this machine for 2-3 min, it still went on without making weird noises. So far, I only experienced one paper jam and that's because I didn't empty the bin when it's quite full and the pieces were pulled back into the blade. So if you only need to do several papers each month like I do, then I guess this one isn't that bad. And plus it really doesn't take up a lot of spaces, so you can store it in between desks like I do and forget about it until the next time you need it. However, if you are looking for a light duty shredder that does cut cross cut, I wouldn't recommend this.

This is a great shredder. It will easily power through the capacity advertised. So many non-industrial shredders sound like they are laboring toward their last breath.

This is a strip-cut, as opposed to the "cross-cut" variety. I have the same shredder in another office that is the cross-cut unit. Fellowes 3312501 Powershred 125Ci 18 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder They both work equally well, but this one (the strip-cut) is much quieter. The advantage of the noisier cross-cut is the shredded paper lays down in the bin better and thus has to be emptied less often. The disadvantage of the cross-cut (other than the noise) is how easy it is to get confetti spread about the office when trying to empty the bin. So I'm a bit of a klutz, but still...I really like both shredders.
