Fellowes B161C 16 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder (3393001) Review

I purchased a Fellowes B161C shredder earlier this week from Amazon when my old Fellowes PS80C-2 shredder finally died. The first unit I received would not turn on, but to Amazon's credit, I received another unit from Amazon the very next day, even before I returned the defective unit. (Thanks Amazon!) The second shredder works great and is even better than my old Fellowes PS80C-2 shredder. However, be warned that this is quite a large unit, so be sure that the dimensions (26.625" x 15.75" x 12.1875") fit your planned location for a shredder. The B161C shredder is clearly intended for adult users. It does not have the Fellowes "Safe Sense Technology" that automatically disables the shredder when a hand touches the paper opening, but the opening is quite narrow and deep, so it seems unlikely that adult fingers could fit into the paper opening. (I don't know if it would shut off if clothing found its way into the paper opening.) Nor does it have the jam proof system found in other Fellowes shredders that indicates if too much paper has been inserted into the opening. The shredder chews-up about 15 or 16 pages into very small pieces. The specifications say that it will run for about 18 minutes before it must take a 30 minute rest. Shredder oil is recommended by the manufacturer. While it is quiet, it is not unnoticeable, but would probably not bother others working nearby. It seems to me that this is a moderately priced, medium duty, no frills, powerful office machine that competently shreds paper as it was designed to do. However, it is probably best suited for office use.
