USB Floppy Drive for Imac apple Review

For a long time, I thought I had lost my word files from my 1993 Thesis. Then I found an old mac formatted floppy disk with copies of my thesis documents in it. I've been trying to find these files for many years but lost the CD. I can't believe I still had this floppy lying around in an old box stashed away in a mini warehouse.

Well, I tried to open the disk in a PC, but it would not open a Mac formatted floppy disk, and floppy drives have been gone from the Mac for such a long, long time, that I was amazed to find out that they still make them. So, with no reviews, I took a chance and ordered this unit hoping and praying that it would work with my 27" Intel, quad core iMac.

When the disk arrived, the documentation indicated that the unit was supported by Windows systems only, so with a great deal of trepidation I hooked up the drive to my Mac and proceeded to insert the floppy disk. OMG! It worked like a charm! The drive came alive, complete with the blinking lights and that old floppy drive sound I hadn't heard in ages; it was music to my ears. Promptly, a beautiful floppy disk icon mounted on my desktop. I was in business.

I then opened the folder and saw my old files in their pretty W icons (much nicer than the current ones by the way), and copied the files to my desktop with no problem whatsoever. I cranked my Word processor and one by one all the files opened, perfectly formatted, just as I left them 19 years ago - Amazing!

And that was it. I do not have another floppy disk lying around anymore to use this drive with. But I am keeping the unit with me anyways. Gee, it is only 12 bucks, and I my get me a few floppy disks to mess around with; just to see the blinking lights again.

The short of this story is that the unit was delivered lightning fast, which is amazing considering that they only charged $.50 for shipping. It is a vey nice unit, solidly built, and nicely packaged. Great deal if you ask me, and highly recommended.
