DBPower 2.4G Handheld Wireless USB Automatic Laser Barcode Scanner Reader High Speed (Black) Review

I do own this 'generic' scanner. I bought 4 of these to help track inventory at my business. I wanted a wireless scanner that was accurate, effective and easy to use. This scanner has not disappointed me in any respect and I am quite happy with it, especially when you consider the price.

We got the BLACK model. I recommend it, since I think the white model may be slightly different (and may have a different charger plug cord). The black model has a typical round plug that you plug into the bottom of the scanner, in order to charge it. On the other end, the cord is a standard USB plug that you plug into your computer or ANY STANDARD USB CHARGING PORT, in order to charge. The cord does NOT transmit any data. It is only for charging. You might want to buy some USB Wall Charger Adapters if you don't want to use the USB port on your computer for charging. This barcode scanner does NOT come with a cradle, but it doesn't need one.

The instruction book is fairly simple though adequate. It also comes with a card that has some Barcodes on it. Save that card. Those barcodes are actually how you change the programming on the scanner, though you probably won't need to use them, since it is ready to go and set up for most applications right out of the box.

There is also a wireless USB adapter that you need to plug into a USB port on your computer, in order for your computer to communicate with the device. That was plug and play on my computers and as soon as I plugged it it, I could open a program and start scanning right into it. I do believe that the wireless USB adapter is necessary, since I do not think the scanner communicates with Bluetooth or standard WiFi. We use desktop and laptop computers running Windows 7 and 8, as well as our inventory control program. On one computer (out of over a dozen we tried) it did seem to have some interference with the wireless mouse we used on that computer, which also had a similar USB wireless port connector.

Range on the device was good and with it I could scan items in another room, 80 feet away from my computer base station. I have not made any attempt to verify maximum range, since I don't need more than that.

So far, no problems to report. I will try to keep you updated about any changes.

Using it with Square credit card processor I save paper because I only print the customer copy because all the other transaction data is accessed online. Swingline Stack-and-Shred 100X Hands Free Shredder, Super Cross-Cut, 100 Sheets, 1-2 Users (1757571) Review

This shredder is great if you figure out the right technique. As you can see by the reviews, there is wide variation in the success with this shredder. I think the difference is that if you use flat paper - i.e. out of your printer with no folds - it seems to work fine. But if you are trying to shred bills or statements that came in the mail, the paper has folds in it that make it harder for the rollers to grab the paper and pull it down into the shredder, and it just spins its wheels, unless you use this trick.

HERE'S THE TRICK: Take your stack of paper, fold it in half, and crease the paper at the fold and then put the stack in the shredder with the crease pointing down (like a flattened out V) - the shredder will then grab sheets properly almost every time. The paper still sits more or less flat in the tray, but because the center of the paper has the crease, it dips down into the space between the rollers better so they can grab it. It seems to help if you put a really good crease in the bottom sheet to get things going.

Some other notes:

* You'll have to manually feed any paper that's odd sized, like those annoying checks your credit card company sends you. Although I did have better success with odd-sized stack and shred if I put all of the same kind in a clean stack and used the fold technique described above - the transfer checks from BofA worked okay this way.
* Redistribute the shredded paper occasionally (every 40 sheets or so) because it stacks up towards the back of the unit
* Clean the rollers occasionally by wiping them with a clean cloth to get paper shreds and dust off of them
* If you shred more over 130-150 sheets, it may stop and and show the red overheat light. Just open the unit up, take out any paper, and wait 5-10 minutes for it to cool off. Note that the red light won't be on when you have the lid open - dumb.
* If it does jam, and you reverse it, don't forget to put it back in the auto mode. A couple times I thought it wasn't working because it was running, but it was actually still in reverse mode and of course not shredding! Oops!

Following this approach, I was able to shred a whole stack of paper we'd built up because our old shredder required manual feeding. It was maybe 500 sheets in one evening.

So I recommend this shredder, but Swingline did a bad job of writing the manual and explaining how to have better success with it.

I received this for a gift and am extremely happy with it. I love to write short stories but often have writer's block, so I'm excited to have a new format. The best part about this typewriter is that even though it's electronic, it still makes the familiar old "clacking" sound as you type, and has the familiar typewriter font--really sets the mood for creative writing. I wouldn't have expected a typewriter to have spell-check, but this one does--it makes a little dinging sound if you spell a word incorrectly, and gives you the ability to erase one letter, the word, or an entire line with the (included and already installed) correction tape. You can adjust the positioning of the paper yourself with the knob on the side, which would be helpful when filling out forms. Includes a keyboard cover to keep dust out of the keys, and a carrying handle. Overall, the typewriter is easy to set up and use.
