This dictionary is designed for the Japanese and English bilingual learner who has at least reached the intermediate level of both languages. Or put it another way, it is originally designed for the professional translator or scholars whose native language is Japanese (as SEIKO's webpage indicates). So before you buy a Japanese electronic dictionary, know your needs. These various competing companies aim at their target buyer in a meticulous fashion.

Pros:
1. LOTS of dictionaries (over 25 in total). For me this deserves a five-star. In terms of the selection of dictionaries, I think this is among the best ones when considering buying a Japanese electronic dictionary. My favorites: Collins Cobuild and the powerful and very useful Oxford Sentence Dictionary. For the Japanese part there is the popular Random House and Kenkyusha Dictionary of English Collocations, which is very helpful for writing and grammar check. The "jump" function allows the user to look up the meaning of the words in different languages.
2. Its PASORAMA feature allows users to connect the dictionary to their PC and use the dictionary as a software on the desktop (not available in Mac).

Cons:
1. The start-up (and also shutdown) are too slow. Have to wait 2-3 seconds to input the first alphabet, which is annoying. I don't have such an issue when using the old model, SEIKO SR-T6500, several years ago. Personally it makes me feel uncomfortable, because I sort of feel the rhythm of my study is interrupted when I have to wait for the dictionary to react. The overall reaction of this machine is also slower than the old model too.
2. The reaction of the keys is poor - slow, sometimes unresponsive.
3. Too expensive as its hardware performance is mediocre. Personally I would recommend SEIKO SR-E10000 or Casio XD-B10000 for people searching for electronic dictionaries with similar contents.
