We hosted a child from Ukraine for apx. 4 weeks. We used this to communicate when we were out and about. It really seemed to work well. The child did not use it due to lack of education but could read it and answer yes and no questions, etc. that we would ask. We have hosted 3 other orphans from Ukraine before and I wish we would have bought this sooner. It proved to be money well spent for our use.
I do not know how it would work if you were to travel but for what we needed it was wonderful.
You can translate from any of these languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Korean, Hindi,Arabic and Chinese and you can translate to any of these same languages. This little thing fits great inside your pocket or purse. It can speak words for you. Unless you are real long winded and say a lot then the person will have to read it. It has simple every day phrases in it which I believe would be a lot more handy if you were traveling. It is not fast like google translate because it takes it a little bit of time to come up with a translation for something that is not already in it but it will get the job done.
It takes 2 triple A batteries which we only replaced the original ones once during the 4 week period that we were using it. I always carried extra batteries along just in case I got in a jam but never needed them. It also comes with earphones to use for individual listening and a cable to plug it into the computer....I didn't read what that was used for. Over all if you are planning to have an exchange student or plan to host someone that doesn't speak your language....it again is well worth the money spent!
