Fellowes Powershred 73Ci 100% Jam Proof 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder (4601001) Review

This shredder comes well-packaged. It's so well wrapped that opening the plastic is a small chore. Once the plastic is off, set-up is very easy.

This shredder is replacing my now dead "Aurora AS1040C 10 Sheet Micro shred JAMFREE Crosscut Paper Shredder with Pullout Basket and Casters" that I bought two years ago. That shredder also had a powerful motor, but also a better-built and larger frame. This shredder's frame feels too lightweight for the heavy shredder top. Since I don't plan on moving my shredder around much, this is not too big a concern.

Otherwise this shredder does its job. It turns on with a slight touch to the blue LED light on the top. I tried various thicknesses of paper, and the machine senses how powerful it must cut. Sometimes the machine will stop in the middle of a shredding function, so that its sensors can reevaluate its needed power. CDs, credit cards and staples also were no problem.

My old Aurora AS104OC was a micro-shredder. This machine doesn't shred the paper that finely. The good thing about that is that the pieces aren't that dusty. The micro-shredder always produced paper dust which settled in the bottom of the bin. This shredder is so much cleaner in comparison.

The machine's noise level is decent but not quiet. The more paper that goes through the motor at the same time, the louder it gets, so I certainly wouldn't want this in the bedroom.

While I do miss my older shredder, this new widget-laden shredder does a good job. It shreds what it was designed to shred, and its compact size make it ideal for a small office.
