We use 2 different 2D barcode readers at work and this one is far superior to the other (a Honeywell... I think it's 30206?).The Honeywell has a large red illuminated area and a much smaller blue box inside that area. The blue box is the "hotspot". This Wasp reader uses a cross hair instead. Both are perfectly adequate, but my preference is the cross hair.
Both barcode readers can read even very small QR Codes (they both do several others, too, but this is what I'm using everyday) but the Wasp reads them faster.
My primary preference to the Wasp, however, comes from the fact that it is deadly accurate. The Honeywell will sometimes misread and insert funny characters. The Wasp has never done that (as far as I've noticed). I think accuracy is the most important feature of a barcode reader and the Wasp has yet to make a mistake.
The reader comes with a book of configurations that you can set--pretty much anything I could think of any many other things besides.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
