In the last five years we have chewed through shredders like they chew through paper. Like the old saying "you get what you pay for" is ever so true in shredders. On the first shredder the plastic casing broke around the motor. This caused the main drive gear to slip. A $4x.xx shredder. The second a $100 shredder blew up. This was caused by the fact that the optical sensors stop working about a year after purchase. While shredding you needed to slide the switch from forward to off. Only sometimes you could go too far and hit reverse while still moving forward. A definite safety hazard. It will have enough of an explosion to lift the cutter head up about 3/4 of an inch.

So the next step buy a good one! This Royal model has throughly impressed me. First off it is really quite compared to the others. Yes you can tell it's on but I bet you can not hear it a room away over the football game. Secondly it has cooling fan(s) built in. This thing is meant to be used. Thirdly there is a basket, easy to empty. Also the basket sports meshed metal upfront. However pull the basket out and the inside is lined with heavy clear vinyl. No paper dust is coming out that mesh. The price listed here is not bad if you compare it to other shredders at other merchants. I have seen it or comparable shredders at the $300 + range. Good news is you can get it at a Zam's for about $100 less than here. HOOORAY!
