This scanner worked perfectly on my Win7 machine - no drivers needed.
Plugged in and it was ready a minute later. I didnt even have to crack open the manual.

Used it to scan my book, movie, and music CD collections - read everything no problem.
Once I figured out where the proper bar codes were (some books sometimes had 2), scanning was fast.

The only issue I had was I had a natural tendency to scan at a 90deg angle instead of 60deg or so - it wouldnt read.

This shredder handles so much more than just a few sheets of paper. You can stack up to 10 sheets at a time and it will even handle the staples, so no need to pull them out first. There are individual shredding slots for paper, CD/DVDs and credit cards. Everything is cut extremely fine and the end result looks more like confetti than the typical lines of shredded paper you get with most machines. There are wheels located on the base than can be locked so they won't roll when you don't want them to.

The black and matte metal design has a modern feel and works well with any rooms color or wood scheme. The bin has a clear section in the center of the drawer so you can monitor how full it is. After turning the power switch on, everything else runs on it's own. No need to press or hold any shredding buttons like with some other brands. Just feed in what you want shredded and the machine senses it. It then comes out of sleep mode and begins pulling the item inside for shredding.

The waste bin can hold quite a bit. After shredding 20+ pieces of paper and various CDs, there was just a thin layer of paper at the bottom of the canister. This size would be perfect for a home office or small business. This unit shreds paper so finely and the information is shredded so well that my husband is taking this unit to use in his office at work for legal papers that need shredded (he works in law enforcement). They require their documents be shredded to a specific level, and this more than meets it.

The Simply Shred PSC310D is a great looking shredder you won't have to hide somewhere because it's an eyesore. It's sharp appearance and small footprint will make deciding on a spot in your office for it a pleasure instead of a chore. It works perfectly and I can't recommend this shredder enough! Absolutely love it!

Had over 250 boxes left over from an old business that had to be shredded. This worked just as advertised as a "close and play" shredder. Stick in a stack of paper, close the lid, and it took off. Only jammed a couple of times. Seems if you have too many papers stapled together, it will jam up. Just had to poke around to clean things up and it was good to go. Worked as good with the first stack as the last.

This product does an excellent job for what it is designed to do. I inserted one of these into my shredder and I instantly heard the rpm of the cutters speed up. I was a bit skeptical of this at first -- the price seemed a little "too good". After testing it out with different barcodes, and using it for what I bought it for (entering DVD barcodes into DVDProfiler), I must say I'm very impressed.

Initial impressions after opening it -- this thing just feels cheap. A very light plastic, light-weight item with what feels to be a poorly put together button (it seems like something that might last a few years, but that the button will be the first to break). With that said, it is affordable enough to ignore that fact, and if you get even a years worth of use out of it, it was more than worth it.

I think the black fits most modern PCs/equipment. For the price, it's probably the best looking scanner out there -- you can get a cheaper one if you don't mind some oddities with getting it setup.. or it looking like a Cat CueCat PS/2 Standard Barcode Scanner

The USB cable is a good length at 6 feet - it's also pretty thick (which was unexpected, but very nice).

The scanner is very easy to use -- hit the button and the LED reader will light for 2 seconds.. scan your barcode within that time. If it scans, you'll hear a BEEP from the built-in speaker (also very nice!), the barcode will input as text and it will hit "Enter". This means if you scan into a text program, it will break each barcode into its own line. If you have a browser open, it will search for the barcode. If you use a program like DVDProfiler, it will search for the barcode after scanning. A huge timesaver!

The scanner is plug-and-play (at least in Windows). I tried it both on Windows XP and Windows 7 and it instantly started up and worked great (no installing drivers - no installing special software).

There is no "Settings" panels for the scanner, unfortunately. Instead it comes with a large printed manual filled with barcodes -- you're supposed to scan these to change settings to the scanner. A bit of an inconvenience (since you have to keep the manual in a safe spot), but if you just want it for basic home usage, you can probably do without making any changes.

Accuracy is very good with professionally-done barcodes on flat surfaces.
CD's, DVD's, videogames, boxes.. no problem. When scanning rounded objects (like a soda bottle), I noticed it struggling (often taking multiple scans to get it). Also, anything obscuring even a small amount of the barcode can create problems - some DVD cases has a bend on the plastic case (over a small part of the barcode) which prevented them from scanning.

Very small barcodes worked (though they sometimes took 2 scans). Upside-down barcodes worked (and scanned correctly).

My own printed barcodes (using a label-printer) would not scan. Some barcodes wouldn't scan either. Check the item description for supported barcode types.
