I've had a paper shredder in my home for many years. We've all heard stories about people going through dumpsters and wastebaskets to steal your personal information and once you're a victim of identity theft it can take years to get your name and credit restored. Because of it, I decided to get a paper shredder and have owned two versions of the another popular brand(which will remain nameless) which I was satisfied with for the most part, but they kept breaking down. Then I came upon this Aurora 1050XE and couldn't be happier. This is the best shredder I've ever owned by far. Like everyone, I get lots of offers in the mail for credit cards, memberships, life insurance and even funeral coverage(do they know something I don't) and have always shredded them. It takes time but it's better than just throwing them out with the regular trash. My rule is that if it has my name and address on it, then it gets shredded. This new Aurora not just shreds, it destroys whatever paper or important documents you may put into it. Unlike the previous shredders I've owned which shredded paper into long strips, this Aurora turns it into tiny squares that would be impossible to put back together. There are a lot of safety features built into this Aurora shredder that I also like. The main shredder has to be mounted securely to the rim of the waste basket before it will work. It also includes the new feature called "ShredSafe" where the main shredder is able to detect forced entry and automatically cuts the power off. In addition to that, you cannot operate the shredder correctly unless you push open the handle of the cover which then tilts open to allow you to start shredding. If that weren't enough, once the wastebasket is full the main shredder shuts down until you empty it. This can be done easily because the wastebasket is just the right size for those supermarket plastic bags to fit over. There is an optional coverage plan that you can buy for $5.00 that covers the Aurora shredder for two years. If anything goes wrong in those two years you can get a brand new one. I use my shredder for bank statements, phone & energy bills, credit card statements, expired credit cards, old e-mails that I've printed out, photographs, and even old IRS tax forms that were taking up space(you only have to keep them for three years now). If you're serious about identity theft then you can't go wrong with this new Aurora 1050XE shredder. I highly recommend it to everyone.
