I have had this dictionary for 1 year and it eats batteries. I put a new button battery in, look up 4 or 5 words, and then the battery is dead again. Button batteries are not cheap, and neither was this pocket dictionary. For the price it should work a whole lot better than this. Franklin should be ashamed. I think it is just another piece of over-priced foreign junk. Run.

I bought T-11 English-Russian translator 1,5 month ago. I am exciting! This tool is very helpful for folks who are going to read english\russian books. It is much easier and much less hurtful for eyes to use translator instead of computer.
T-11 is wonderful assistant to learn language, it can memorize words which you were looking for. You can list it later for your better memorizing. T-11 has learning exercises and tests for grammar training, TOEFL and other training.
I don't like the only one thing is that translator has keyboard with small buttons. I think it is a disadvantage for me and other guys with big fingers)

Franklin Electronics BES-2170 Franklin Speaking Spanish-English Dictionary with MW Advance Learner's Dictionary Review

Don't be swayed by the lack of reviews (at this point) for this spanish english dictionary. It's only because it's the latest version. I decided to take a gamble on it by purchasing a barely used one for $30 and it has really payed off. Before I ordered this model I had used the 2100 and the 2150. Both of these models are ok if you want a dictionary that is good enough, but that is not a well made product that is user friendly. With the 2170 it seems that Franklin has finally decided to catch up with the times and make something that works more intuitively and does what an electronic device like this should do (make the act of using a dictionary easy and quick). The way that the keyboard is set up makes more sense than the previous versions and just pushing down on the keys is easier than the previous two versions. The backlight works well, but for me it isn't really an issue. I don't usually need a backlight. The 2170 seems durable, but only time will tell. The instructions seem to be better than the instructions that came with the two previous models but I can't say with certainty because I've never been one to read directions unless I have to(I usually just fool around until I figure things out), but at a glance, they are definitely more comprehensive than the small one page abreviated instructions that came with the other two models. So to sum it up, this dictionary basically has the same data inside it as the two previous models (from what I can tell), but delivers it to you in a much more thought out and user friendly way. Whether it is worth the full price being charged for it depends on why you are purchasing it I suppose. If you aren't very serious about learning another language, or money is an issue for you, you might want to go with less expensive model. If you're going to use the dictionary alot and ease of use is important to you then I would shell out the money for this model. I am a serious learner of the spanish language and I agonized over finding the best electronic spanish english dictionary I could find for quite a while, and with this one, it seems that I have finally found it. Anyway, I hope this will help others who find themselves in the same position to make the decision for themselves.

Acceptable dictionary service. (Quick, short definitions to a large number of everyday words)
Useful pronunciation service.Cons:
Perceptible delay in appearance of definition after word has been typed in(though you get used to it)SLOW word correction (if you type in a word/spelling not in the dictionary, the wait is excruciating while it comes up with alternatives. To be fair, this search can be canceled promptly if you typed in a wrong word by mistake)Not quite portable. Dictionary could have been more comprehensive, used AAA batteries. Top heavy (literally), unwieldy in the hand due to 4 AAs.Would have preferred more comprehensive definitions and lesser games. More comprehensive meaning better definitions and more etymologies. I would not agree with the term "Language Master" because of the perceived deficiencies in the number of words and length of definitions.
I would NOT call it a good reference either.
Compared to the the excellent free service at [...] and my own idea of a portable dictionary. Keys go clackety clack - could have used softer keys.I would not recommend this buy.P.S.

The speech, whether Chinese or English, is very clear and the speed can be slowed to better understand the correct pronunciation. The volume can be controlled to overcome even the loudest background noise. The size is perfect to hold in both hands and easy to type into the QWERTY keyboard. The product is good for both English needing Chinese translation and Chinese needing English translation. Every English word or Chinese character can be audibly pronounced and looked up. Overall this is a great product at a great price, would buy again if need. Was hesitant on buying as there were no reviews, but now that I have used it I have no regrets and know I made the correct choice. So far I can't can't complain about anything that this translator has to offer, and actually have found it has much more than I expected the more I use it.

I purchased this for my son who has dyslexia to help him as he is reading. Since it has a dictionary and it speaks the word it has been very useful. There is a bit of a learning curve in handling the pen and getting it to scan but once that technique is down things go very smoothly. It has given my son more independence with his reading and I no longer have to stand over him to make sure he is indeed reading a word correctly or he is understanding what a difficult word means.
